    Ocean

I haven’t been doing well these past few weeks but last night I felt much better. The power of the ocean really plays a big part on the overall me. Somehow, whenever I drive out to the beach, I instantly feel at peace. I don’t know if it’s just looking at the waves, smelling the sea salt, watching the beautiful moon rise in the horizon, or just hanging out with a really good friend, but it was extremely therapeutic. My advice to you is if you are having a tough week or need some alone time, find your happy place that makes you feel that overall peacefulness, such as the…

    Dakota The Service Dog

Dakota, my beautiful Siberian Husky, has been a dream come true. I’ve always wanted a black and white husky, but never in a million years did I think I would have her and be able to have her by my side every second. At 8 weeks old, I started Dakota in obedience classes. She passed elementary, middle, and high school with flying colors. Once Dakota graduated, the next step was to train her to become a service dog. I knew that I wanted to be the one who actually trained her, so we were recommended to use this trainer who would teach me how to properly train Dakota. We learned…

    Travel

My parents have taught me that it is very important to travel and that the world has a lot to teach us. At a very young age, two months to be exact, I took my first trip out of the country. My dad said the first thing he did when I was born, was he applied for my passport. My parents knew that they wanted to take us to as many places so we could see the world differently and so we can appreciate everything we have. Traveling has changed a lot for me. It’s very different to travel in a wheelchair compared to being able to walk normally. Before…

    School

Yesterday, I woke up to a big white envelope with my name on it. I felt the excitement rising from within. It’s a piece of paper that I have waited more than 8 years to receive, my Bachelors Degree. Throughout my whole life, all I could ever think about was traveling and school. Getting straight A’s and getting into college was key for me. For as long as I can remember, all I wanted to do was to become a doctor so I could help children just like me. Elementary was kind of a blur to me. I remember having a good time but I do not remember the times…

    Support Team

Today I’m going to talk about what its like to have the right people and support when you are going through tough times. I believe having a support team is the key to getting through any difficulty that life throws at you. My parents and brother have been my rock throughout my life. I know for a fact, without them, I would not be here. They have sat with me through every long and tedious scan or hospital visit. They have been the ones who gave me that extra push that I always needed. The key is you should always have people around you who truly care about you. Those…

    Hello & Welcome

Running into the hospital, with your 7 old daughter in your arms while she is having a seizure. Sending her off into an MRI machine to do a full body scan and then hearing the news that your little girl has a brain tumor wrapped within her whole entire spinal cord, having to make a life changing decision to give consent to operate in a split second. I don’t think my parents will ever forget that day of taking me into a hospital and being informed that their daughter has a rare type of cancer. From that day on, my life has changed. My name is Shauna Ragbir and I…
