Travel

My parents have taught me that it is very important to travel and that the world has a lot to teach us. At a very young age, two months to be exact, I took my first trip out of the country. My dad said the first thing he did when I was born, was he applied for my passport. My parents knew that they wanted to take us to as many places so we could see the world differently and so we can appreciate everything we have.

Traveling has changed a lot for me. It’s very different to travel in a wheelchair compared to being able to walk normally. Before I was permanently in my wheelchair, we went to numerous places. Each birthday, I would ask to travel to different places because I always believed in making memories instead of receiving gifts. We have traveled to Thailand, London, Paris, Peru, Machu Picchu, Canada, Trinidad and Tobago, Bahamas, and many states throughout the United States. Since I’ve been in my wheelchair, traveling has been a little more unique but I am still able to go to all the places I have dreamt of, it just involves a little more planning. We recently just came back from Iceland and it was a blast! I would defiantly recommend Iceland as a wheelchair friendly country. Yes, being in a wheelchair takes more time planning trips but I plan to travel everywhere and figure out which part of the world is wheelchair friendly and where is not so friendly. I am actually in the process of planning another amazing trip and I hope we can see it through!

My absolute favorite place in the world is the mountains, the Appalachian Mountains to be exact. North Carolina has always been our getaway when we needed a break. I call it my quiet and happy place.

If you are interested in knowing more about Iceland or anywhere I have been, I would defiantly write more detailed articles on each place we have traveled!

Yes, being in a wheelchair is hard but it should never stop you from doing what you always dreamed of. There is so much to learn out there in the world and if traveling is your dream, then you should continue!
